We are an evangelical Christian community in the suburb of Ashgrove, seeking to love God and love each other.
We are a church which falls under the movement of Queensland Baptist Churches. To find out more about Queensland Baptists, visit their website here.
We believe God, in three persons (Father, Son, Holy Spirit), is the creator and sustainer of the universe. We believe He is all knowing, all powerful, all loving and just.
(Genesis 1:26,27;3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Romans 11:33-36; 1 Timothy 1:17; Revelation 4:8,11)
We believe that Jesus is the Son God, co-equal with the Father and Holy Spirit. Jesus lived a sinless life, and willingly offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for all of humanity by dying on a cross. Three days later, He was raised from the dead, demonstrating His power over sin and death. We believe Jesus will return one day to take His rightful place as King of kings and Lord of lords.
(Matthew 1:22,23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5, 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14,15; 1 Cor.15:3,4; Romans 1:3,4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Tim. 6:14,15; Titus 2:13)
We believe that the Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son. He is present in the world to make humanity aware of their need for Jesus, bringing restoration to brokenness. The Holy Spirit resides in every Christian from the moment of first belief, providing power, strength and ongoing regeneration. The Holy Spirit gives gifts to believers as He sees fit for the building up of the church family and for the glory of God.
(2 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7 – 13; 14:16 – 17; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12; 3:16; Ephesians 1:13; Galatians 5:25; 1 Peter 4:10; Romans 12:3 – 8; Ephesians 5:18)
We believe the bible is God’s Word to us and is without error; written by human hands and inspired by guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is our supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct.
(2 Tim.3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21; 2 Tim.1:13; Psalm 12:6; 119:105,106; Proverbs 30:5)
We believe that all of humanity is created in the image of God, to live in close relationship with Him. Because of our disobedience towards God (sin) and our brokenness, we are separated from God and face His judgment.
(Genesis 1:17; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6; 59:1-2; Romans 3:23; 1 John 5:19)
We believe that we cannot earn God’s favour and Salvation through good works. The only way that we can be saved from our sin is to turn to Jesus, and receive Him by faith. When we genuinely accept His offer of grace and mercy, we are saved into His family, as adopted sons and daughters forever.
(Romans 6:23; Ephesians. 2:8-9; John 14:6; Titus 3:5; Gal. 3:26; John 10:28-29; 2 Tim.1:12)
We believe that God has created us in His image to live forever. A time will come when Jesus returns and all those who have received Him will be taken to Heaven to live with Him forever, and all those who have rejected His offer will be separated from Him for all eternity.
(John 3:16; 1 John 5:11-13; Revelation 20:12-15; Matthew 24: 30,31; Matthew 25:41,46)
Baptism and communion are celebrated and observed regularly at Ashgrove Baptist. Baptism is the act of a believer being immersed in water following their profession of faith in Christ; a symbolic act of their desire to follow Jesus.
Communion is a memorial within our services which reminds us of the cross- the body and blood of Jesus broken and shed freely for the forgiveness of our sins.
Every believer is an ambassador for Christ in their sphere of influence, being salt and light; called to live a life in service to Christ. We believe, through the empowering of the Holy Spirit, we can experience intimacy with Christ, obedience to His Word, engagement in prayer and heartfelt worship, resulting in a beautiful expression of the body of Christ (the local church), with each member using gifts the Spirit has given, with Christ as the head.
Ashgrove Baptist Church is governed by its members, directed through the Senior Pastor and the Deacons/Elders. We believe God calls both men and women to lead in equal facets of church life and ministry. Deacons and Elders are elected by the congregation and together with the Senior Pastor are responsible for providing spiritual oversight, setting and monitoring the strategic direction of the church. The role of the pastors, staff and ministry leaders is to equip the people of God for the work and privilege of ministry.
